It is no wonder that the first time I picked up this book to try reading it, I didn’t get past the first few pages – it just bored me – and that it took a cross Atlantic flight of 6 hours for me to finally get far enough along to end up finishing the book.

My library Help Advanced Book Search. Perhaps that makes me a lazy reader. I feel very mixed about this book. Ultimately, I just found it slow and boring–which, given the content, was surprising to me. OK, I have officially given up on this book. Things improve a bit when Jesus decides to make an appearance at some point, but his life, as we all know, is short-lived segn thus we are left even more frustrated not only because of His premature death, but also because he has abandoned us alone with Saramago.

I also couldn’t quite figure out why he wrote it–it didn’t seem like a book written to encourage or seugn the believer, nor provoke thought in the atheist.

The story had good pace, the characters were being eevangelio developed, but I found myself getting annoyed every time I picked it up. I was always of the belief that it made sacrifices of animals and slaves obsolete, hence the commonly spoken descriptions “ultimate sacrifice” and “died for your sins.

But I don’t read for intellectual stimulation unless I’m in a literature class. However, to dwell on the bad without even hinting at or touching upon the good of Christianity jesucriwto intellectually dishonest.

The problem is that Saramago sometimes makes assertions without offering any sort of narrative argumentation i. La primera tercera parte empieza bien.
